I have been teaching nurses, nurse practitioners and those in related fields at the doctoral, master’s and baccalaureate levels for several years at Radford University. Prior to becoming an educator, I had worked as a nurse and nurse practitioner, primarily in the areas of women’s health but also in hospice, inpatient obstetrics and gynecology, and the emergency department. I have also volunteered as a ski patroller and a church chaplain. At Radford University, I have had the opportunity to work as a PI or co-investigator on several studies. I am especially interested in exploring the potential of complementary therapies for those with difficult and chronic conditions, and access to healthcare for rural and underserved clients, I enjoy working with with students on research projects. Recently I completed several projects working with graduate and undergraduate students conducting research on a range of topics including Caregiver stress for Appalachian residents providing care at home, and a study related to the benefits of yoga for opioid rehab inpatients. I am currently writing an interprofessional health assessment textbook for Cognella Publishing that should be released summer 2024. I enjoy the intersection of teaching, research and practice. I appreciate Radford University for the support of faculty and students.
