Dr. Bierman maintains a health care interest in the rural and underserved populations within SWVA. She maintains a Mental Health practice as well as serving as a Associate Professor of the School of Nursing; both positions utilize her advanced degree in Social Work and her Nurse Practitioner Board Certification in Family Medicine and Psychiatric Mental Health. At RU she has obtained approximately $4M in HRSA grant funding and established the program for psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners. Her current interests include interprofessional education, telepsychiatry, and the integration of medical and behavioral health care .
