I began my career in nursing in 1995 after graduating from Wytheville Community College (WCC) with an Associate’s Degree in Nursing. My first experience as an RN included working as a staff/charge nurse in long-term care and rehabilitation. While pursuing my Bachelor’s Degree, I gained acute and critical care experience in medical/surgical nursing and intensive care. I obtained my BSN from Old Dominion University in 2000. My nursing experience expanded in leadership as a nursing supervisor and emergency/trauma charge nurse. My career in academia began in 2015 as a clinical instructor to ADN undergraduate students. I obtained an MSN with a specialization in nursing education in 2016 from Capella University. I have experience to facilitate learning in various arenas of nursing, including long-term care, medical/surgical, pediatrics, critical care, emergency/trauma, and administration. I have taught in both ADN and BSN undergraduate programs. I began my journey in simulation as a BLS, ACLS and PALS instructor utilizing mid-fidelity simulators to certify healthcare professionals. In 2016, I became the Simulation Lab and Clinical Coordinator for the Associate’s Degree Nursing Program at Wytheville Community College. I developed, planned, implemented, and evaluated simulation experiences for the Occupational and Health Programs including IPE with Physical Therapy Assistant, Dental Assistant, and Dual Credit programs. Additionally, simulation education was coordinated with outsourced entities including both school and public health nurses. In 2018, I became a simulation educator for the Radford University Clinical Simulation Center. I hold certifications as an Academic Clinical Nurse Educator, Certified Medical-Surgical Nurse, and as a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator.
