Dr. Gilbert is an Associate Professor in the School of Nursing at Radford University, Radford, VA. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1980 and her Master of Science Nursing in 2005 from Radford University. She completed her PhD at the Medical University of South Carolina in 2014. Dr. Gilbert has been teaching at Radford University since 2003 and has been lead faculty in the undergraduate Gerontological Nursing course since 2011. She also teaches in the graduate and post-licensure programs. Her areas of interest are: undergraduate nursing education, family caregiving, and long term care. She was a Hartford Scholar from 2003-2005 and received the Outstanding Dissertation Award in 2014 at the Southern Nursing Research Society conference. In 2019, she was named Outstanding Educator in Gerontological Nursing by the National Hartford Center for Geriatric Nursing Excellence. She has published and presented at numerous conferences.
