Mr. Jay E. Wright CPA,CFE
Adjunc tInstructor of Accounting
Office: Kyle 251 and via Zoom
Hi All. I go by “Jay” and will be working with you over the next 8 weeks. I am a lifelong resident of Virginia and earned both undergraduate and graduate degrees at surrounding schools. I am currently working on a PhD in Accounting with Northcentral University and working to be ABD by the end of this year. I worked in the healthcare field over a 20-year period, starting as a staff accountant and wrapping up as a Chief Financial Officer. I liked teaching as an adjunct so much that I chose to enter academia full-time in 2005. I am active in the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. I have developed a number of accounting courses for both undergraduate and graduate programs and have worked with pretty much every learning platform that ever existed! My approach to teaching accounting stresses the importance of being able to APPLY the quantitative skills learned in a variety of real-world situations that a manager may find himself/herself in. Today’s graduates are held to a higher standard than ever before and need to possess the education and confidence to enter the field as a consummate professional. As an instructor, I make the commitment to develop a strong and respective relationship between my students and other peers. We, as instructors, set the tone of a course and need to be consistently accountable for best practices. For students, I expect a conscious effort to mastering the skills used in accounting, along with the expansion of these into real-world cases. By working closely together, both parties can develop a trusting and lasting relationship that rewards both for their efforts. Feel free at any time to contact if I can assist you in any way or to just chat!
