Dr. Stanaland received her BBA and MBA degrees from the The University of Texas at Austin and her Ph.D. from the University of Houston. She also spent a graduate semester at Rotterdam School of Management (Erasmus University) in The Netherlands. She has taught advertising, promotions and consumer behavior courses at the National University of Singapore and the University of Houston, where she received the Melcher Award for Excellence in Teaching. Dr. Stanaland has taught Principles of Marketing, Marketing Research, Integrated Marketing Communications, and Consumer Behavior at RU. She was named Greek Life Professor of the Year in 2009, Outstanding Faculty Member for the College of Business & Economics in 2010, and selected for "Distinguished Women of Radford University" in 2012. Prior to academic life, she worked in consulting for Accenture and Arthur Andersen.
Dr. Stanaland’s research interests lie in the area of consumer response to advertising as well as consumer welfare and public policy issues, including children’s privacy online and mutual fund ad disclosure. Her work has been referenced by such popular press news sources as ABC News, PBS, New York Times, Washington Post, MSN, and Business Week, as well as in congressional testimony to the United States Senate Subcommittee on Consumer Protection, Product Safety, and Insurance. Her research has appeared in Journal of Retailing, Journal of Communication, Journal of Advertising, Journal of Advertising Research, Internet Research, Journal of Business Ethics, International Journal of Advertising, Journal of Advertising Education, International Journal of IMC, Journal of Consumer Affairs, Journal of Consumer Policy, Journal of Personal Selling and Sales Management, Health Communication, Journal of Health Care Marketing, and others.
Dr. Stanaland enjoys traveling, and has lived in Europe, Asia and Australia. She co-coordinated Radford's Study Abroad programs to Australia in 2007 and 2010 and Ireland in 2013.
